53rd Annual Mark Twain Library Art Show
Artist’s Bio:
A self taught oil painter, local artist Kevin McNamara resides in Redding Connecticut. His passion for drawing and painting goes back his whole life. His youth was influenced by trying to replicate the line work of comic and coloring books. “I would visit the Museum of Cartoon Art in Westchester, New York with my father almost every Sunday, amazed at the beautiful art in the segmented comic book frames”.
After attending the Connecticut Institute of Art, he never strayed far from traditional art. “My intention was to study the schools fine art teachings, but being young and impressionable I was swayed into commercial art by the instructors telling us “if you want to make a living then you have to go the commercial art route”. After many years of concentrating on his commercial art career, he has gravitated back to painting and drawing. “I have been trying to revisit the core fundamentals of art lately. You can stray so far in such a short amount of time”. His influences include Richard Schmid, Charlie Hunter, John Singer Sargent, William Merrit Chase and Anders Zorn. “I am always chasing the giants. “My goal is to keep painting and observing life and how it changes around me”.
