53rd Annual Mark Twain Library Art Show
Artist’s Bio:
Jonathan Schubert
Harleysville, PA
I am a self-taught painter with a lifelong career in trombone performance. For almost 30 years, I have been a professional bass trombonist for orchestras and bands. I began painting four years ago to quell the existential nothingness that began creeping into my everyday; and, it has saved and refreshed everything in my life.
I discovered a whole community of generous, creative people who welcomed me unconditionally.
I have heard my paintings described as “colorful,” but I believe them to be “honest.” You can see all of my strokes and even follow my process along the way. I try to paint for the layperson, not necessarily the academic – in the same way as Brahms composed music only for the common people. My goal is to create paintings that speak a common language that everyone understands, but in words only images can convey.
I currently maintain my orchestral career in Philadelphia, New Jersey and Sarasota, Florida, and I regularly create and sell paintings from my website: schubartcreations.com. I am immensely grateful to my wife, Karen, for being so supportive and to the Mark Twain Library for being true champions of new art and of working artists.
