Artist’s Bio:
Kathy Coe was trained at DuCret School of the Arts and the National Academy of Fine Art and Design. Coe studied with masters including Ron Sherr, Harvey Dinnerstein, Mary Beth McKenzie, Burt Silverman and Furman Finck. This foundation in rigorous observation is matched by her gift for color and atmosphere-subtle harmonies that give her paintings both intimacy and radiance.
Kathy paints with an eye for both likeness and spirit. Her portraits, still lifes, and figural works don’t simply capture appearances – they reveal personality, presence, and the quiet truths of her subjects. Working from life and guided by natural shifting light, Coe builds her compositions intuitively. Rather than imposing a fixed plan, she follows feeling, allowing each painting to unfold into its own mood and voice.
One of Kathy’s most meaningful projects was painting portraits of Gilda Radner for Gilda’s Club, a cancer wellness center on Houston Street in NYC. She worked closely with Gene Wilder to create a magical world for Gilda. As you enter the building Gilda’s many characters, along with Gilda herself, greet you with smiles and laughter.
Kathy’s work is part of distinguished private and institutional collections worldwide, including those of Joan Rivers, King Charles, Gene Wilder, the Princeton Club (NYC), Occidental College (Los Angeles), Kensington Palace and Gilda’s Club (NYC)
Throughout her career, Coe has received numerous honors, among them the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant, the Edward Mooney Traveling Scholarship, the National Academy’s Lorraine Grace Award and Helen M. Loggie Award, the James Sudan Bronze Medal and the Salmagundi Silver Medal for drawing.
Kathy is represented by George Billis Gallery in NYC, and Gtown Arts in CT.
