Description
53rd Annual Mark Twain Library Art Show
Artist’s Bio:
Helen Rolfe Ham is an intuitive artist, guided by color, emotion, and internal vision rather than fixed plans. She thinks in images – shapes and spaces arrive before words – and each painting unfolds through a dialogue between spontaneity and structure.
Themes in her work reflect natural forces, emotional tides and the tension between chaos and control. She builds each painting in layers, embracing both spontaneity and refinement. She develops depth and resonance in color by letting paint dry in intervals allowing each layer to hold its own presence.
Inspired by nature, she paints landscapes, seascapes, the heavens, trees, and flowers. Her work transcends style, crossing impressionism, abstract and modern art.
Helen works with oil and cold wax on canvas, wood, and paper. She also works with gouache on watercolor paper.
Helen’s paintings have been juried into shows at the Rockport Art Association, Rockport, MA, The Mark Twain Library in Redding, CT, the Randall Library in Stow, MA and the Destination Nature exhibit at Fivesparks Gallery in Harvard, MA.
