Artist’s Bio:
Julie Hopkins grew up in the Hudson River Valley and on Fire Island. She derives both inspiration and much of her subject matter for landscapes and intimate still life paintings from sketches, photos and observation of the local landscape and seashore life. Most recently she has been working on a series of abstracts using collage and mixed media.
Julie is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America and serves on its Board of Governors; an Elected Artist Member of the Salmagundi Club of New York, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Audubon Artists of America, and the Allied Artists of America; a Signature Member of the Connecticut Pastel Society; and a member of the Portrait Society of America, Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, the Monotype Guild of New England, and the New York Society of Etchers.
Her work was featured in the books Art Journey Abstract Painting: A Celebration of Contemporary Art (2017), North Light/IMPACT Books/F&W Publishing; and Best of America: Pastel Artists (2009), Best of Artists & Artisans Series/Kennedy Publishing, as well as in The Pastel Journal’s Annual Pastel 100 Competitions where she has received several Honorable Mention awards for her pastel paintings in the Abstract/Non-Objective Category.
