Artist Bio
Stephanie King is a native of Massachusetts and has lived in South West Florida and Southern Maine. She maintains a full time studio in Sandwich, MA located on Cape Cod. Stephanie received her BA in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1999. Prior to becoming a full time artist, she taught Montessori education for fifteen years. Throughout her many years of teaching Montessori, Stephanie always incorporated her love for art and nature into her daily classroom curriculum. She transitioned into a career in the visual arts driven by both an innate desire to create and a profound aspiration to effect positive change in the world through art.
Stephanie approaches art through observation, documentation, exploration, and experimentation using an array of media and methods. The focus of her work is on exploring colors, patterns and textures found within the landscape.
Her artwork is often characterized as a blend of artistic expression and scientific curiosity and is viewed as both a realistic and whimsical assemblage of time and place. Stephanie has been observing and studying plants, seaweed and nature through an artistic lens since 2005. In 2023 she started her business, Seaside Botanical Art. As a visual artist, it is her greatest desire to preserve nature, showcasing its beauty.
Stephanie stays connected to the natural world and the arts community on Cape Cod, MA through participating in art exhibitions, teaching workshops, participating in conservation volunteer work and maintaining memberships within various art centers, cooperative galleries, art museums and nature preserves. When not in her studio, Stephanie finds inspiration by traveling with her partner to seaside destinations around the world.
