Artist’s Bio:
Cathleen Nardo
Biography
Cathleen has been creative throughout her life in many ways. Her first career was as a singer/actor/dancer in NYC where she appeared Off-Broadway, in regional theaters and as a featured entertainer on cruise ships. She then moved into corporate communications and advertising at Grey Advertising.
The daughter of an art teacher and niece of a well-known Louisiana artist, Janice Sachse, she had always loved the visual arts but became dedicated to its pursuit in 2007 after taking a class at the New York Botanical Garden. She has been avidly studying, drawing and painting ever since at the National Academy in NYC, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey and at the DuCret School of Art, and numerous workshops offered through pastel societies. She is a founding member of Alain Picard’s Cultivate, a community of over 400 artists worldwide who study together and support each other’s artistic growth. Her work focuses on nature: people, animals, plants and the landscape. She does not try to replicate what she sees but hopes to express her experience of what she paints through color, value and design.
Cathleen is a member of the Connecticut Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of America, Washington Art Association, and the Society of Creative Arts in Newtown where she serves as Program Chair. She is a former member of Gallery 25 in New Milford.
For her Portraits with a Purpose initiative, she accepts pet portrait commissions, donating part of her fee to support animal rescue organizations, and regularly donates certificates for custom pet portraits to local charities for their auctions.
Cathleen’s work has been exhibited at the SlowArt Gallery in Hudson, NY, the Mark Twain Library, Great Hollow Juried Art Show, Weir Farm’s Art in the Park, various Connecticut Pastel Society shows, the Pastel Showcase at the Salmagundi Club, NYC, various SCAN shows, and, most recently, at the Kent Art Association where her painting, Sunflowers in a Vase, won Best Floral. She also recently received an Honorable Mention in the Roxbury Art Show.
Cathleen and her husband live in Danbury.
