Artist’s Bio:

Kristen Terrana-Hollis (b. 1982, Brooklyn) is an illustrator and designer based in Connecticut.

Kristen became interested in illustration in a cartooning club at Forest Hills High School, where she studied and produced political cartoons. She went on to earn her BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2005. Since then, she has created art for social change, through political cartoons, murals, and teaching art classes in the community.

Nature is a central theme in her work, highlighting our connection to the Earth and the creatures who inhabit it. In Kristen’s ongoing series, the “Fire in my Belly”, she uses loose brush strokes to create creatures from her subconscious. Kristen’s saturated palettes of gouache, watercolor, and ink to convey a fantastical mood to the work. In this series Kristen allows forms to take shape without predetermined motives. The interpretation of these works is up to the viewer.

Kristen is a designer for non-profit organizations such as The American Red Cross and UNICEF. Her illustrations have been published by Penguin RandomHouse, including “My Big Book of Feelings” and the 12-book series, “Puzzlooies!”.

Kristen has painted murals across the U.S. for nonprofits and local schools. She has exhibited her work nationally and has curated several group art exhibitions.
