Artist’s Bio:
Cindy Wagner acquired her love and skills for painting as a teen while working with her dad creating sets for movies, the NYC ballet and theater. The Artists at Variety Scenic Studios were her first teachers and mentors. Cindy’s paintings depict life’s moments, real people and places. She graduated SUNY at Buffalo with a degree in Physical Therapy and knowledge of human anatomy. She continued studying art at Silvermine School of Art and with individual master artists. She is Past Chairman of the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, Juried Member of the Salmagundi Club, Juried member of Oil Painters of America, and The Westport Artist Collective. Cindy is a board member for the Commission for the Arts Town of Weston and Metropolitan Museum Benefit Chair for the Catharine Lorillard Wolf Arts Club. She currently teaches painting and drawing at several locations in Connecticut. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums and universities. She is the recipient of several awards including 2022 Connecticut Society of Portrait Artist Faces and Figures, 2020 Mixmaster at the Mattatuck Museum CT Visitor Award, 2017 Southport Portrait Festival Painting Award and Jurors Award. She received Honorable Mention Award 2019 Dreams Juried Exhibition Rene Soto Gallery CT.
Dancing through Life Series is about the beauty and enchantment of dance. The goal is creating a painting of pure joy. Accuracy of anatomy, the dance position and theatrical color are a priority in this series. The series was inspired by a pre-ballet dance recital. Each little dancer moved in opposite directions, not in unison as instructed. Smiling, I decided I had to paint these moments.
